Let’s get to know each other better…

Artist Statement

Whilst a student, I learnt to combine ideas and methods whilst mostly “staying within the lines” but graduating led me to break boundaries and experiment with the freedom of expression, using a playful nature in my work that is bursting with colour and breaks all the rules. This allows each creation to be made intuitively which gives it an energy to lift any home interior, whilst maintaining an eco-friendly ethos. My influences stretch from Rothko for colour vibrancy/mood, Hoch for humour & mixed media, Pollock for the energetic style and Klimt for the use of gold/silver. The recycled canvases are covered by leftover interior emulsion, texture paste or generous acrylic paint. There is an idea of history in the layers, but I work quickly adding paint colours and ink before the last layer has dried. Finally, gold or silver leaf is dropped into the thick wet paint and secured only with a light press of my fingers. Sometimes, off cuts/waste materials and found objects are incorporated into the piece to make a commentary on climate change. This gives a rustic and fragile nature to the piece whilst also adding a dimension of light and texture.

My current focus is on creating multi-layered, maximalist style abstracts with floral elements that can later be used as textile prints and made into a mini-series. I am currently designing curtains in this way using mindfulness in my process. These products will be available from my print-on-demand (POD) menu. I am also creating some abstract seascapes, in a bid to explore a playful approach to an expected cornish art style. I like to develop my art and skills to move with the times and to create only what is in me to make at any given time. My work has always been influenced by the coast here in cornwall and has an eco approach and an underlying sense of global mission. Outside of that, i like my art to not be restricted to any one type but more flexible and free to express what is in my heart.
